Osphos® is the only bisphosphonate approved by the FDA for intramuscular use in horses. Clodronate, the active ingredient in Osphos®, is a bisphosphonate known in laboratory animal studies and in vitro studies to inhibit bone resorption by reducing the number of active osteoclasts, regardless of the cause of osteoclast activity, and it also inhibits the formation and dissolution of calcium phosphate crystals in the bone matrix.\u003c\/p\u003e  \n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDosage: \u003c\/strong\u003eAdminister 1.8 mg\/kg via intramuscular injection (IM) with a maximum of 900 mg per horse.
