Hbd High Potency Super Fine 1 LB
Uses
A complete year-round formula for canaries and finches as well as budgerigars (budgies) and other small parrots.
Conversion: all birds should start on and stay on the High Potency formula for at least 6 months.
Special needs: for birds that are moulting, overweight, underweight or especially active, live in cold climates, are recovering from illness or have liver or kidney disease.
Feeding weaned birds: feed the High Potency formula for at least 6-9 months.
Feeding breeding birds: feed birds the High Potency formula 1-2 months before the breeding season and until the chicks are weaned, or for at least six months before returning to the Adult Lifetime formula. The amount of certified organic vegetables and fruit can be increased until the chicks are weaned. For every 2 tablespoons (20 g) of formula, add ½ tablespoon (5 g) of certified organic sunflower seeds.
Storage: Harrison's Bird Foods contain no artificial preservatives. Once opened, the pack should be used within 8 weeks. Storing the food in the fridge or freezer helps keep it fresh.
Feeding directions
Feed fresh food daily; do not "top up" the food.
To help reduce waste, offer it as separate meals.
Birds can eat as much as they want, but use the list below as a guide.
Approximate feeding amounts of High Potency Super Fine (HPSF) and supplementary foods:
Canary / finch: 1 - 1.75 g (1 tsp) of HPSF and ½ tsp of supplementary foods
Budgerigar / parrotlet: 1.5 - 3 g (1 - 2 tsp) of HPSF and ½ - 1 tsp of supplementary foods
Cockatiel / lovebird: 2 - 5 g (1.5 - 3 tsp) of HPSF and ½ - 1 tsp of supplementary foods
Feeding supplementary items
Harrison's products should make up 75-80% of your bird's diet by volume. It is recommended that 15-20% of the total diet be high-quality vegetables and fruit, preferably organic. Deep yellow or dark green items, such as sweet potato, carrot, squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango or papaya, are among the most beneficial.
It is recommended that 5% of the total diet be high-quality items, preferably organic, that provide a rich source of omega-3. Examples include chia seeds, hemp seeds, flaxseed or some nuts. See this article for more information on the reasons for and benefits of including these items.
Supplementing with vitamins or other bird or animal supplement products is not recommended.
[For birds suspected of having iron storage disease: avoid citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwi, strawberries and other foods containing vitamin C. Avoid grapes, raisins, liver, red meat, egg yolk or dark green vegetables such as spinach, which may contain high levels of iron.]
