Aqua Medic Turboflotor 5000 Shorty From the successful Turboflotor 5000 series, we have developed these powerful protein skimmers for installation in aquarium cabinets. The Turboflotor 5000 Shorty 2 and Turboflotor 5000 Shorty Compact close the gap between the versatile Turboflotor 1000 for aquariums up to 500 liters (150 gallons) and the Turboflotor 5000 Baby for aquariums from 1000 to 2000 liters (250 - 500 gallons). The Shorty is made in two sizes to fit most aquarium cabinets. Like the larger models, it is equipped with a Venturi pump and a patented needle wheel. Water supply to the skimmer requires a second pump with a capacity of at least 2000 liters/hour (500 gallons/hour). The skimmer can also be connected directly to the aquarium overflow. In this case, it is recommended to install a bypass to control the water flow to the skimmer, especially if strong return pumps are used.
