It is also useful to know the actual concentration of oxygen provided by an oxygen concentrator or oxygen generator, as this may vary with load and flow rates. No pump or delivery system is required to deliver gas to the sensor element. The active element is very close to the surface, enabling accurate measurements in open-air environments, such as oxygen tents or oxygen cages. ICON can be supplied with magnetic mounts or by Velcro to facilitate attachment to the sides of cages. ICON has a good response time, stabilizing on a reading within 10-15 seconds. It uses a standard AA battery, which lasts about a year when used for eight hours daily, every day. The sensor element is a long-life galvanic sensor, with a working life of approximately two to five years, depending on exposure to 100% oxygen, to 21%, respectively.
