EQUITAINER I: Ballast Bag The Equitainer I Ballast Bag is a component used with the Equitainer I system for shipping chilled semen. It adjusts the volume inside the sample container, ensuring consistent and secure cooling of equine reproductive samples.

Provides additional volume to reach the recommended volume (120–170 ml) inside the container when semen volume is low

Composition

A dark plastic bag filled with approximately 60 ml of a non-reactive liquid (often purple in color), exclusively intended for balancing purposes

Instructions for Use

Place the Equitainer I Ballast Bag next to the semen-containing bag inside the container to achieve the optimal total volume for cooling.
Use only under the supervision of a veterinarian; the exact volume of ballast required depends on the semen volume and should be determined by a qualified specialist.
The ballast liquid is not used for insemination or any other clinical applications.

Package Size

Typically supplied in multiple sets (such as 4 bags per package) as part of the Equitainer I accessory kit

The Equitainer I system may include ballast bags depending on the model (e.g., the cup model includes ballast bags, while the tube model may not require them). Ballast bags are omitted when the semen volume alone is sufficient to reach the desired range.
