Storage: Harrison's bird foods do not contain artificial preservatives. Once opened, the package should be consumed within 8 weeks. Storing food in the refrigerator or freezer helps maintain its freshness.
Feeding Instructions: Offer fresh Food daily, do not "top off." To minimize waste, serve as separate meals. Birds can eat as much as they want, but use the Menu below as a guide.
- Canaries / Finches: 1 - 1¾ grams (1 teaspoon) of ALM and ½ teaspoon of additional foods
- Parakeets / Small Parrots: 1½ - 3 grams (1 - 2 teaspoons) of ALM and ½ - 1 teaspoon of additional foods
- Cockatiels / Lovebirds: 2 - 5 grams (1½ - 3 teaspoons) of ALM and ½ - 1 teaspoon of additional foods
- Pigeons / Chickens: 5 - 15 grams (½ - 1½ tablespoons) of ALM and 1 - 2 teaspoons of additional foods
Supplementary Feeding: Harrison's products should make up 75-80% of your bird's diet. It is recommended that 15-20% of the overall diet consists of high-quality, preferably organic, vegetables and fruits. Dark yellow items, or dark leafy greens, such as sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, winter squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango, or papaya are most beneficial. It is recommended that 5% of the overall diet consists of high-quality, preferably organic, items that provide a rich source of Omega-3. Examples include chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, or some nuts. Refer to this article for more information on the reasons and benefits of including these items.
Adding vitamins or other supplements for birds or animals is not recommended.
[For birds suspected of having iron storage disease: Avoid citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwi, strawberries, and other foods containing vitamin C. Avoid grapes, raisins, liver, red meats, egg yolks, or dark leafy greens like spinach, which may contain high levels of iron.]
