This formula meets the nutritional needs for year-round maintenance of healthy birds that are not breeding or molting, including pionus, amazons, cockatoos, macaws, and other medium to large parrots. Pepper Lifetime Formula can be offered after a bird completes a dietary program of High Potency Formula for 6 months, as a spicy alternative to Adult Lifetime Formula. Alternatively, it can be fed to any bird as a treat or added to a High Potency diet to aid conversion. It is also suitable for birds showing clinical signs of papillomatosis.

Storage: Harrison's bird foods do not contain artificial preservatives. Once opened, a bag of Harrison's should be consumed within 8 weeks. Storing food in the refrigerator or freezer helps maintain its freshness.

Feeding Directions: Fresh food should be fed daily, not just topped off. To minimize waste, offer food as distinct meals. Birds can eat as much as they want, but if feeding as the main diet instead of a treat, use the guide below. Approximate amounts for feeding Pepper Lifetime Coarse (PLC) and additional foods:

  • When feeding as a main part of the diet (can also be offered as a treat):
  • Pionus: 10 - 15 grams (1 - 1.5 tablespoons) of PLC, ½ - 1 teaspoon of additional foods
  • Amazon: 15 - 30 grams (1.5 - 3 tablespoons) of PLC, 1 - 2 teaspoons of additional foods
  • Eclectus: 15 - 30 grams (1.5 - 3 tablespoons) of PLC, 1.5 - 2 teaspoons of additional foods
  • Cockatoo (large): 15 - 30 grams (1.5 - 5 tablespoons) of PLC, 2 - 3 teaspoons of additional foods
  • Macaw (large): 20 - 60 grams (2 - 6 tablespoons) of PLC, 2 - 4 teaspoons of additional foods

Feeding Additional Items: Harrison's products should make up 75-80% of your bird's diet volume. It is recommended that 15-20% of the total diet volume be high-quality, preferably organic, vegetables and fruits. Dark yellow or dark green items like sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango, or papaya are most beneficial. It is recommended that 5% of the total diet volume be high-quality, preferably organic items that provide a rich source of Omega-3. Examples include chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, or some nuts. View this article for more information on the reasons and benefits of including these items.

Vitamins or other supplementary products for birds or animals are not recommended.

[For birds suspected of having iron storage disease: Avoid citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwi, strawberries, and other foods containing Vitamin C. Avoid grapes, raisins, liver, red meats, egg yolks, or dark green vegetables like spinach, which may contain elevated levels of iron.]
