Research indicates a tightly closed nitrogen cycle in corals where concentrations are higher in the micro-zone near the corals (Radecker 2015, Wiedenmann, 2023) compared to the surrounding waters. It is important to maintain nitrogen levels alongside phosphorus levels to allow for optimal growth and coloring of corals and macroalgae. Supplementing with inorganic nitrogen provides a targeted means to increase nitrogen without adding phosphates or dissolved organics. A typical nitrate test will show all forms of nitrogen added by Reef Nitrogen™. Reef Nitrogen™ is suitable for use with aquavitro® sentia™ dosing to maintain a nitrogen level at a constant concentration based on the unique Order of your aquarium. Reef Nitrogen™ can also be easily dosed manually. Ideal nitrogen levels will vary but generally range from 1 – 2 mg/L (4.4 – 8.9 mg/L nitrate).
