Composition

• Quaternary ammonium compound and biguanide 0.44g/100g
• Cypermethrin 0.25%/100g

Uses

Skin conditions of bacterial, fungal, or viral origin in dogs, horses, goats, cattle, sheep, and small exotic animals (not intended for use on domestic cats).

This skin preparation can be used as a treatment for the skin where insects are a concern or where fly infestation is likely to occur, for example:

• Bacterial dermatitis
• Moist eczema ("hot spots")
• Ringworm
• Malassezia disease
• Conditions causing fur and skin contamination such as diarrhea and urinary incontinence

Antimicrobial action

The antimicrobial action of this preparation relies on the registered compound F10. The mechanism of action of F10 is derived from that of each component taken individually, as well as from the additional synergistic action of all components combined. At the concentrations present in the product, F10 has been evaluated to provide a reduction > logs in microbial counts against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria; fungi, yeasts, and molds; enveloped and non-enveloped viruses; bacterial and fungal spores. The group of keratinophilic fungi is very large, but there are only two known genera, known as dermatophytes, that cause disease ("ringworm") in animals.

Insecticidal action

The insecticidal action is based on cypermethrin (a pyrethroid insecticide) and is assisted by piperonyl butoxide. During the testing phases, the indicator species used was Lucilia cuprina, a common type of fly. Once the larvae were sprayed, they immediately began migrating from the test site and were dead within 30 minutes. Other tests on L. cuprina eggs showed 100% kill results. The product was equally effective against adult flies, showing a kill rate of up to 77% in 15 minutes, rising to 100% within 30 minutes. Cypermethrin is a broad-spectrum insecticide effective against other insects, such as biting flies, fleas, mosquitoes, and ticks.
