Marine invertebrates and algae require an optimal concentration of magnesium. A perfect example is red calcareous algae. These consume large amounts of magnesium to build their structure. Natural seawater contains about 1300 mg/l. If we want to achieve ideal conditions in the marine tank, this concentration must be considered. You can easily and quickly determine the magnesium concentration in the marine tank using the magnesium test from Sera. The magnesium concentration can be comfortably increased in the marine tank using Sera Magnesium Plus.
The magnesium level can be increased using Sera Marin COMPONENT 6 Magnesium. The consumption of the reagent depends on the calcium level in the tested water.

Usage Information: A marine water tank requires an optimal level of magnesium for invertebrates and ornamental algae to thrive. Red calcareous algae are a perfect example. These ornamental algae require large amounts of magnesium, as they incorporate this element into their structure. Natural marine water contains about 1300 mg/l. This level should also be maintained in the ideal marine water tank. The Sera magnesium test allows you to monitor the magnesium level in your tank quickly and easily. It becomes easier if you have gained experience in testing using the Sera calcium test. You can easily increase the magnesium level in your marine water tank by adding Sera Marin COMPONENT 6 Magnesium. Usage Instructions: Shake the reagent bottles well before use! Do not let the tested water come into contact with the tank or pond water!
1. Rinse the vial several times with the water to be tested, then empty the vial. Dry the outside of the vial.
2. Rinse the syringe several times with the water to be tested, then fill 2 ml of it into the vial using the syringe.
3. Add 6 drops of reagent 1 and shake the vial until the liquid is evenly distributed. Any cloudiness that may occur should not affect the test.
4. Add a level measuring spoon (included with the kit) of reagent 2 to the vial and gently swirl the vial (do not shake) until the powder dissolves.
5. Add reagent 3 drop by drop while counting, and release the pressure on the reagent bottle after every 5 drops, allowing air to enter the bottle. Shake the vial after each drop until the color changes from pink to blue (not purple) and remains stable for at least 30 seconds while occasionally shaking the vial. Record the number of drops used.
6. Empty the vial, rinse it carefully with tap water, then several times with the water to be tested, and then empty the vial. Dry the outside of the vial.
7. Draw 2 ml of the water to be tested into the syringe and fill it into the vial.
8. Add 6 drops of reagent 4 and shake the vial until the liquid is evenly distributed. Any cloudiness that may occur should not affect the test.
9. Add a level measuring spoon (included with the kit) of reagent 5 to the vial and gently swirl the vial (do not shake) until the powder dissolves.
10. Add reagent 3 drop by drop while counting, and release the pressure on the reagent bottle after every 5 drops, allowing air to enter the bottle. Shake the vial after each drop until the color changes from red to green and remains stable for at least 30 seconds while occasionally shaking the vial. Note – you will need significantly more drops for this measurement compared to the first measurement!
11. Subtract the number of drops required for the first measurement from the result of the second measurement. Multiply the remaining number of drops by 60 to obtain the magnesium level in mg/l. Example: The first measurement required 4 drops, and the second measurement required 24 drops. If you subtract the result of the first measurement from the second, 20 drops remain. 20 drops multiplied by 60 gives 1200 mg/l magnesium.
12. Cleaning: Thoroughly clean the vial and syringe with tap water before and after each test. Close the reagent bottles immediately after use and do not interchange the caps. Store them at room temperature and away from light. For testing in ornamental aquariums and pond water only.
