The absorption process means accumulation (as opposed to adsorption). Absorbent filter media are materials that remove harmful substances from the water and collect or bind them. This includes chlorine from tap water, Medicines residues or traces of cleaning agents, pesticides, dyes, and others.
Tip:
Use absorbent filter media for a short period only. Since harmful substances only adhere, they can dissolve again after a period of time and return to the water. At the very least, it is necessary to replace them regularly. Absorbent filtration is usually only necessary during the startup period of the aquarium or after using Medicines.

Eheim Active is washed with acid and activated to automatically absorb water (active surface 1200 m²/g). Therefore, this activated carbon quickly binds to chemical pollutants such as pesticides, Medicines residues, and other substances, storing them in large quantities. The water in the aquarium becomes crystal clear. It is particularly important to use it after treating aquarium inhabitants with Medicines.
Eheim Active should be used for a limited period only (about 4 weeks) and then removed or replaced.
In the layered structure of the filter, Eheim Active is used directly after the mechanical filter block (such as Eheim Mech or Mech Pro) and the biological (such as Substrat Pro) in the provided mesh bag.
