Uses

A year-round formula for small to medium parrots such as Conures, Lories, Quakers, Cockatiels, Lovebirds, Pigeons, and others.

Conversion: All birds should start and remain on a high-potency formula for a minimum of 6 months.

Special Needs: For birds that are molting, overweight, underweight, particularly active, living in a cold climate, recovering from illness, or affected by liver or kidney disease.

Weaning Birds: Should be fed a high-potency formula for a minimum of 6-9 months.

Breeding Birds: Birds should be fed a high-potency formula 1-2 months before the breeding period and until chicks are weaned or for a minimum of six months before resuming adult formula. The amount of approved organic vegetables and fruits added can be increased until chicks are weaned. For every two tablespoons (20 grams) of formula, add half a tablespoon (5 grams) of approved organic sunflower seeds.

Storage: Harrison's bird foods contain no artificial preservatives. Once opened, a bag of Harrison's should be consumed within 8 weeks. Storing food in the refrigerator or freezer helps maintain freshness.

Feeding Guidelines

Offer fresh food daily, and do not "top off" the amount. To help reduce waste, serve it as distinct meals. Birds can eat as much as they like, but use the Menu below as a guide.

  • Small Parrot: 1.5 - 3 grams (1 - 2 teaspoons) of high-potency formula, ½ - 1 teaspoon of additional foods.
  • Cockatiel / Lovebird: 2 - 5 grams (1.5 - 3 teaspoons) of high-potency formula, ½ - 1 teaspoon of additional foods.
  • Quaker: 3 - 7 grams (2 - 4 teaspoons) of high-potency formula, 1 - 1.5 teaspoons of additional foods.
  • Lory* / Conure: 5 - 9 grams (3 - 5 teaspoons) of high-potency formula, 1 - 2 teaspoons of additional foods.
  • Pigeons / Doves: 5 - 15 grams (½ - 1.5 tablespoons) of high-potency formula, 1 - 2 teaspoons of additional foods.
  • Mynah: 20 - 100 grams (2 - 10 tablespoons) of high-potency formula, 1 - 6 teaspoons of additional foods.

*For Lories, soak the formula in two tablespoons of water and half a teaspoon of corn syrup.

Supplementary Feeding

Harrison's products should make up 75-80% of your bird's diet volume. It is recommended that 15-20% of the overall diet volume consists of good quality vegetables and fruits, preferably organic. Dark yellow or dark leafy vegetables such as sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango, or papaya are most beneficial. It is recommended that 5% of the overall diet volume consists of high-quality items, preferably organic, that provide a rich source of Omega-3. Examples include chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, or some nuts. See this article for more information on the reasons and benefits of including these items.

It is not recommended to supplement the diet with vitamins or any additional products for birds or animals.

[For birds suspected of having iron storage disease: Avoid citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwi, strawberries, and other foods containing Vitamin C. Avoid grapes, raisins, liver, red meats, egg yolks, or dark leafy vegetables like spinach, which may contain high levels of iron.]
