  • Uses: For hand-feeding Young parrots until weaning. For Young parrots after feeding them the selected neonatal formula. For birds recovering from illness or injury and birds losing weight during diet conversion.
  • Storage: Harrison's bird Food contains no artificial preservatives. Once opened, the Harrison's bag should be used within 8 weeks. Storing the Food in the refrigerator or freezer helps maintain its freshness.
  • Feeding Instructions: Warning: Proper feeding technique must be used to avoid injuring the bird or inhaling the formula, which may lead to pneumonia or death.
  • Species: From day one for Pionus, African Grey, Amazon, Cockatiel, Conure, and Macaw parrots. From day seven for other parrots. From day twenty-one for Cockatiels.
  • Instructions:
    1. Step 1: Gently feel the crop to determine if it is nearly empty before feeding.
    2. Step 2: Mix the hand-feeding formula with bottled water heated to about 103°F (39°C). Follow the prescribed ratio of formula to water as directed by your avian veterinarian for your bird's age. Do not microwave. Allow it to cool to a warm temperature. Young birds with open eyes should be fed 3-4 times daily, and birds showing feathers, 2-3 times daily.
    3. Step 3: Feeding with a gavage syringe is generally the most successful method. While facing the bird, position the syringe to enter the oral cavity from the left side of the bird's beak and direct it towards the right side of the bird's neck. Place the Food in the bird's mouth, and upon swallowing, the natural feeding response closes the trachea and prevents inhalation of the formula into the lungs.
    4. Step 4: Feed the bird until the crop is full but not overfilled, and clean any excess formula from the bird's beak, feathers, and cage.
  • Guideline Quantities: If inexperienced in hand-feeding small birds, seek guidance from an avian veterinarian regarding appropriate usage ratios. Below is intended as a guide only:
