This year-round balanced formula meets the nutritional needs of healthy, non-breeding, non-molting birds, including Pionus, Amazons, Cockatoos, Macaws, and other medium to large parrots. The Pepper Lifetime formula can be offered after a bird completes a 6-month high-potency diet program, as an impressive alternative to the Adult Lifetime formula. Alternatively, it can be fed to any bird as a treat or added to a high-potency diet to aid in conversion. It is also suitable for birds showing clinical signs of papillomatosis.
Storage: Harrison's bird foods do not contain artificial preservatives. Once opened, they should be consumed within 8 weeks. Storing food in the refrigerator or freezer helps maintain freshness.
Feeding Guidelines: Offer fresh food daily, and do not "top off." To help reduce waste, serve it as distinct meals. Birds can eat as much as they like, but if offered as a main meal rather than a treat, use the guide below.
Approximate feeding amounts of Pepper Lifetime Coarse (PLC) and additional foods:
When feeding as a primary part of the diet (can also be offered as a treat):
- Pionus: 10 - 15 grams (1 - 1.5 tablespoons) of PLC, ½ - 1 teaspoon additional foods
- Amazon: 15 - 30 grams (1.5 - 3 tablespoons) of PLC, 1 - 2 teaspoons additional foods
- Eclectus: 15 - 30 grams (1.5 - 3 tablespoons) of PLC, 1.5 - 2 teaspoons additional foods
- Cockatoo (large): 15 - 30 grams (1.5 - 5 tablespoons) of PLC, 2 - 3 teaspoons additional foods
- Macaw (large): 20 - 60 grams (2 - 6 tablespoons) of PLC, 2 - 4 teaspoons additional foods
Supplementary Feeding: Harrison's products should make up 75-80% of your bird's diet volume. It is recommended that 15-20% of the diet volume consists of high-quality vegetables and fruits, preferably organic. Dark yellow, or dark leafy green vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango, or papaya, are most beneficial. It is recommended that 5% of the diet volume consists of high-quality items, preferably organic, providing a rich source of omega-3. Examples include chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, or some nuts. Refer to this article for more information on the reasons and benefits of including these items.
Vitamin or other supplement products for birds or animals are not recommended.
[For birds suspected of having iron storage disease: Avoid citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwi, strawberries, and other foods containing vitamin C. Avoid grapes, raisins, liver, red meats, egg yolks, or dark leafy green vegetables like spinach, which may contain high levels of iron.]
