Refractometer for Measuring IgG Levels in Colostrum
This veterinary product is a Brix refractometer designed to estimate the concentration of Immunoglobulin G (IgG) in colostrum, allowing for a quick assessment of colostrum quality on the farm using just a few drops of the sample.

Main Benefits

Provides an immediate estimate of IgG levels in colostrum using a Brix refractometer
Requires only a small sample size for testing
Portable and easy to use in the field or on the farm
Does not require consumables or reagents (in optical models) or requires only simple accessories (in digital models)
More durable and less affected by temperature compared to traditional colostrum meters

Composition

Calibrated optical or digital refractometer with a Brix scale
Includes a prism surface and sample cover; digital models include automatic temperature compensation (ATC) and a display
Accessories may include a pipette, calibration screwdriver, protective case, and cleaning cloth depending on the model

Instructions for Use

Place a few drops of colostrum on the prism surface and then close the cover
Read the Brix value directly (digitally) or through the lens (optically) at the boundary between the light and dark fields
Interpret Brix values: values around 22% or higher generally indicate an IgG concentration of approximately 50 mg/ml or more, which is considered high-quality colostrum; lower values indicate medium to low quality
Clean the prism surface between samples and calibrate the device periodically according to the manufacturer's instructions

Package Size

Usually offered as a single unit; digital models may include accessories such as a pipette, screwdriver, case, and manual depending on the company and model

Note

The threshold values for IgG concentration (such as ≥22% Brix equivalent to ≥50 mg/ml) are based on research relationships and may vary by type and model; please refer to the manufacturer's guidelines and consult a qualified veterinarian to interpret results and make appropriate decisions
