This system is connected between the anesthesia machine and the patient via a breathing tube or a tight-fitting face mask. Fresh gas flows through the side arm into the main limb and is inhaled by the patient. Exhaled gases are directed to the reservoir limb and expelled during the expiratory pause. When equipped with an APL valve, manual ventilation can be performed by occluding the bag and gently squeezing it to deliver positive pressure breaths.
