What types of treats are suitable for your dog's or cat's breed, size, and age?
We recommend that your pet consumes treats under supervision, especially when trying a new treat. Many dogs tend to consume the treat without even chewing, so they should be monitored regardless of size and age to ensure they can handle it without choking incidents. Cats generally tend to chew the treat without attempting to consume it in seconds. Small dogs may find leg bones and the like a bit large, while large dogs may try to swallow medium-sized hard treats without chewing, while older pets with dental Disorders need softer chews, so it’s about assessing your pet’s size and eating behaviors.

Storage: The product should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the product in a sealed bag to maintain freshness. If you are buying bags in bulk, keep the unused product in an airtight container to maintain freshness and cleanliness.

Benefits

Oral and dental health for pets is very important for your pets. They are unable to tell us when they are in pain, so regularly checking their gums and teeth is important. Chewing on Zeal® treats helps remove plaque and tartar. It’s also good to brush your pet’s teeth regularly!

Treats for use in training sessions: Treats are a useful tool in the training process as they help keep your pet focused on you and the learning process, regardless of their age. For training purposes, treats should be small and easy to swallow, requiring little chewing so you can reward behaviors quickly and often. Ideal training treats are relatively soft and pea-sized. Pets are not very interested in the size of the treat, but the quantity is what impresses them. Larger treats are more suitable for rewarding good behavior, like large pieces, where your pet has to stop, chew, and take time to consume them.

How to use dog treats effectively: The most effective way to use treats is to reinforce a calm and peaceful state. Never use treats to reward an excited or overly stimulated mental state. Let your pet sniff the treat first, but lift it away from them and wait. Remember that pets, especially dogs, can smell from more than 5 meters away, so you don’t need to place the treat under their noses. Once dogs catch the Scent, they may initially jump, and even jump on you. If this happens, indicate your disapproval through your behavior and body language, your patience as an owner will pay off in an obedient pet. They will understand that a calm and stable approach achieves results, as they sit and wait while looking at you in quiet anticipation. In the moment of calm, offer them the treat. Do not use treats to reinforce an excited pet, but to guide a calm and peaceful state.

Feeding Guidelines

Do not overindulge in treats ~ Although it may be tempting when your furry companion begs for more, do not be too generous and keep treats organized. Treats are meant to complement your pet’s diet. As with us, consuming too many treats can lead to weight gain and will also affect the balance of your pet’s diet, which should be complete and balanced to maintain their health. Ideally, treats should not exceed 10% of your pet’s daily caloric needs, so regular meal portions should be reduced to avoid weight gain, taking into account what they consumed from treats during training sessions in the day. This also applies to treats given as general rewards for good behavior. If you do not do this, your pet’s weight will slowly increase, and the extra kilograms above the ideal will be harmful to your pet’s health.

Wise Treating ~ We always recommend that your pet consumes treats under supervision, especially when trying a new treat. Some dogs (which is uncommon for cats) are overly enthusiastic when it comes to delicious treats and may not chew properly, leading to a potential choking hazard.

When to give your pet treats ~ Between meals is the ideal time to give treats, not directly before or after a meal. Choose a treat that your pet will enjoy. If you are using treats as a training tool, your treat will not work well after your pet has had a full meal.
