The Exo Terra Reptile UVB 100, 13W bulb features moderate to high UVB output, similar to that found in shaded environments such as tropical forests and other tropical locations. Reptiles living in these habitats receive less ultraviolet radiation due to various climatic conditions (relatively high humidity, weather changes, etc.) that prevent direct sunlight from reaching them or their basking sites.
The advantage of the Exo Terra Reptile Glo compact fluorescent bulb is its size and self-ballasted design. A regular screw base is sufficient to operate these bulbs. The spiral shape of the bulb allows for vertical or horizontal mounting without affecting performance.
It is recommended to combine high UVB output (Repti Glo 5.0 and 10.0) with very high visible light output (Repti Glo 2.0) for best results. Fluorescent bulbs do not provide sufficient heat. A separate heat source is needed in addition (such as a basking incandescent lamp).
