Exo Terra Desert Soil mimics the natural soil found in arid regions, such as deserts or savannas. Most desert soils are not only sand-based but are a mixture of sand, decomposed granite, and clay, resulting in interesting and sometimes colorful rock formations. Exo Terra Desert Soil allows you to create your own desert or savanna landscape, including cool moist nests as well as warm elevated lounging areas. The cool moist nests allow your reptiles to absorb necessary moisture through their skin while sleeping or hiding, while the warm elevated lounging areas help your reptiles regulate their temperature by providing important temperature gradients.

Slightly moisten the Exo Terra Desert Soil to form natural hills, tunnels, and lounging platforms for your animals. Once dry, the Exo Terra Soil will retain its shape, while still allowing your reptiles to continue their natural digging and hiding behavior. You can cover the entire floor space with curated Exo Terra Desert Soil, or create curated sections and fill the remaining space of the tank bottom with Exo Terra Desert Soil or Exo Terra Desert Sand. Exo Terra Desert Soil can also be used to stabilize heavy decorative items, such as branches or rock formations.
