Special Technology for Clean Water and Healthy Fish

In the UV sterilizer, aquarium water is directed as a thin film across the UV-C lamp (the igniter). The UV-C rays penetrate the water and kill microorganisms, algae spores, and other small organisms.

Using traditional technology, water is exposed to rays from only one side. However, EHEIM has installed a reflector, allowing the reflected rays to penetrate the water from more sides. Thus, reeflexUV achieves a significantly higher level of performance.

Moreover, the EHEIM reeflexUV does not have a complex water flow system. Water is not redirected and flows around the igniter without twists. Therefore, there is no loss of performance.

AUTO OFF ensures optimal safety. Since UV-C rays can cause damage to skin and eyes, the reeflexUV shuts off immediately when the device is opened.

What You Should Also Know:

Compared to regular water, the number of bacteria in an aquarium is relatively high due to the small amount of water. It is beneficial to reduce this number and return it to a normal level. However, aquarium water should not be completely free of bacteria.

Only the bacteria floating in the water are captured by the UV sterilizer. Meanwhile, the cleaning bacteria colonized in the filter (compare biological filtration) and the bacteria in the bottom sand are preserved. 

The cloudiness in the water, caused by floating bacteria or algae, is efficiently removed by UV sterilization. Algae growth is primarily curbed because the spores are killed.

UV sterilizers generally ensure better fish health, as the risk of infection is reduced. It is highly recommended to use a UV sterilizer in breeding tanks, where dangerous pathogens nest on eggs or infect small animals, which do not yet have sufficient resistance strength.

UV sterilization generally does not cause any changes in water values.
