Features and benefits
- Mimics natural sun and moon cycles
- Energy-efficient and easy to use
- High-quality finish and safe to use
- Improves the quality of life for all aquarium inhabitants
Beautiful natural light for your aquarium's inhabitants! This AQUAEL LED module emits more light than traditional fluorescent tubes, yet saves up to 50% energy and offers natural colour temperatures. The light mimics different cycles of sunlight and moonlight: sunny / blue (dawn), sunny (daylight) and blue (moonlight) – ideal for aquarium plants and animals! What's more, it is long-lasting. A great deal for aquarium owners who want to give their fish friends the best without great expense!
The unit consists of a modern LED module, a glass housing to protect against moisture and a cable with a switch. The system is splash-proof and can be operated near the aquarium without hesitation, for example attached to the lid above the tank.
LEDDY TUBE modules are very easy to install. Each model comes with special adapters so it can be fitted into any lighting unit. The modules draw power from a separate power supply. Four versions of the product are available: two for freshwater aquariums (LEDDY SUNNY, which emits light with an 8000 K colour temperature similar to natural sunlight, and LEDDY PLANT with a 9000 K colour temperature, designed to promote aquatic plant growth) and two for marine aquariums (LEDDY MARINE, which emits light with a 10000 K colour temperature, designed to improve coral growth, and LEDDY ACTINIC – 20000 K – for better coral colours).
Additional product details
Thanks to the LED technology used, energy consumption is much lower than with traditional light sources, at only 14 W. That is half the value of T5 (39 W) and T8 (30 W) fluorescent tubes.
The great advantages of the Leddy Tube 2.0 module include a long life, no heating of the aquarium water and easy installation in aquarium lids.
Modern LEDs vs traditional fluorescent tubes, incandescent bulbs and compact fluorescent lamps
Properly selected LEDs are the main light source in modern aquarium keeping. They have effectively replaced the fluorescent tubes, incandescent bulbs and compact fluorescent lamps previously used on the market. Compared with these, they have a number of advantages. They allow a big reduction in electricity consumption, because they produce the same amount of light as fluorescent tubes but use half the energy. This means lower electricity bills, which benefits both the aquarist's wallet and the environment. They don't need frequent replacement, as they last up to 15,000 hours, which again means big savings, environmental protection and less effort. At the same time, they do not heat the aquarium water unnecessarily, they shine only towards the water surface (so you don't need extra reflectors), and in addition, unlike traditional fluorescent tubes, they come with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty.
Why light an aquarium?
There are usually two reasons. First and foremost, the tank looks beautiful, that is, natural. The light is meant to give the fish and plants beautiful colours appropriate to each species, and the whole becomes an undeniable decoration for the room. The second aim is just as important – the vast majority of aquarists want healthy plants that grow well in the aquarium. And plants need light for 10-12 hours a day to grow; it is the "engine" of photosynthesis – a natural process through which inorganic compounds are converted into the organic substances needed for their life. So properly chosen light ensures both that the aquarium looks beautiful and that the plants grow well in it.
The LEDs fitted in the module LEDDY TUBE SUNNY emit light with a colour temperature of 7000 K. This provides good conditions for aquarium plants and ensures accurate colour rendering for all aquarium inhabitants.
How much light does an aquarium need?
How much light does an aquarium need? It depends on the plant species we plan to grow in it. In terms of light requirements, they can be divided into three groups:
Group one - shade-tolerant species, such as Pellia, mosses, Java fern (Microsorum), spiral Vallisneria, some Cryptocoryne species (e.g. Aponogeton ulvaceus, Cryptocoryne wendtii, Cryptocoryne beckettii and Malaysian Cryptocoryne), and Anubias.
Group two - moderately light-loving species, such as Marimo moss balls, water wisteria, Rotala, tiger lotus, Ludwigia, broadleaf and three-flowered Hygrophila, Limnophila, broadleaf Sagittaria, Argentine sword, giant Vallisneria, Cryptocoryne species, Limnophila, small-leaf Bacopa, Thai Crinum, Bolbitis, Japanese Hemianthus and Amazon sword.
Group three - strongly light-loving species, such as Cabomba, Glossostigma and Hemianthus.
A conversion of lighting power per litre of aquarium is usually used. Traditionally, for LED lighting of shade plants the minimum is 0.15-0.2 W per litre of water. Moderately light-demanding plants need 0.25-0.4 W/L, and strongly light-loving plants need up to 0.5-0.7 W/L.
The aquarium "day" can fall at almost any time of day. If the tank is away from windows and lit only by artificial light, the lighting on and off times can be almost any time. It is best simply to adapt them to our preferences and the hours we are usually at home (for example "dawn" at 3 pm and "dusk" at 1 am). Then we can enjoy the beauty of our "piece of the underwater world" as we wish.
