The porous material is evenly saturated with water and traps large and small dirt particles. After a short start-up period, purifying bacteria, which provide intensive biological breakdown of harmful substances, colonize the specially designed foam.

Fine and coarse filter pads can be reused multiple times. To clean them, it is sufficient to rinse and squeeze them, so that the bacterial colonies are not completely destroyed.

Pre-filter material made of hollow ceramic rings to trap large dirt particles.

Once it enters the filtration cycle, water is rotated through the hollow ceramic rings. Thus, large dirt particles sink to the bottom. The pre-filtered treated water then continues its way through the other filter layers. EHEIM MECH is easy to clean and reusable.

Enhanced biological filter medium with optimal volume usage, long intervals between cleaning, and excellent decomposition performance.

SUBSTRATpro consists of heated glass in the form of pearls. The spherical shape provides high bulk density. Thus, the entire volume in the filter (filter baskets or units) can be utilized. The ideal surface of the balls also provides intensive colonization of important purifying bacteria.

Thanks to the large number of bacteria, nitrite load is reduced more easily and the maintenance intervals of the filter material are longer.
