•  Studies have shown that cats supplemented with the correct dose of lysine experience less severe clinical tags of FHV-1 after experimental infection than others. 
• The amount of lysine that cats typically ingest on their normal diet is not sufficient to prevent recurrence of FHV-1. 
• Cats exposed to stressful conditions known to induce virus shedding showed reduced virus shedding after oral L-Lysine administration.
