What types of rewards are suitable for your dog's or cat's breed, size, and age?
We recommend that your pet consumes rewards under supervision, especially when trying a new reward. Many dogs tend to consume the reward quickly without chewing, so they should be monitored regardless of size and age to ensure they can handle it without choking incidents. Generally, cats tend to chew the reward without trying to consume it in seconds. Small dogs may find large bones like leg bones a bit too big, while large dogs may try to gulp down medium-sized hard rewards without chewing. Older pets with dental Disorders need softer chews, so judgment should be based on your pet's size and eating behaviors.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the packaged product sealed to maintain freshness. If you purchase large bags, keep the unused product in an airtight container to maintain freshness and cleanliness.

Benefits

Oral and dental hygiene for pets is very important for your animals. They are unable to tell us when they are in pain, so regularly checking their gums and teeth is essential. Chewing on Zeal® pet rewards will help remove plaque and tartar. Regularly brushing your pet's teeth is also a good idea!

Rewards for use in training sessions: Rewards are a useful tool in the training process as they help keep your pet focused on you and the learning process, regardless of their age. For training purposes, rewards should be small and easy to swallow, requiring little chewing so you can reward behaviors quickly and frequently. Ideal training rewards are relatively soft and pea-sized. Pets are not very interested in the size of the reward, but the quantity is what impresses them. Larger rewards are more suitable for rewarding good behavior, like large pieces, where your pet has to stop, chew, and take time to consume them.

How to use dog rewards more effectively: The best way to use rewards is to reinforce a calm and obedient state. Do not use rewards as a reward for an overly excited mental state. Let your pet sniff the reward first, but keep it away from them and wait. Remember that pets, especially dogs, can smell from more than 5 meters away, so you don't need to place the reward under their nose. Once they catch the Scent, dogs may initially jump, and even jump on you. If this happens, indicate your disapproval through your behavior and body language, as your patience as an owner will pay off in an obedient pet. They will understand that a calm and relaxed manner leads to results, as they sit and wait while looking at you with quiet anticipation. In the moment of calm, give them the reward. Do not use rewards to reinforce an overly excited pet, but to reinforce the calm and obedient state.

Feeding Guidelines

Do not over-reward ~ Although it may be tempting when your pet begs for more, do not be too generous and keep rewards organized. Rewards are meant to complement your pet's diet. As with us, consuming too many rewards can lead to weight gain and will also affect the balance of your pet's diet, which should be complete and balanced to maintain their health. Ideally, daily rewards should not exceed 10% of your pet's daily caloric requirements, so regular meal portions should be reduced to avoid weight gain, taking into account what they consumed from rewards during training sessions in the day. This also applies to rewards given as general rewards for good behavior. If you do not do this, your pet will slowly gain weight, and the extra kilograms above the ideal weight will be harmful to your pet's health.

Regarding rewards ~ We always recommend that your pet consumes rewards under supervision, especially when trying a new reward. Some dogs (uncommon in cats) are overly enthusiastic when it comes to delicious rewards and may not chew properly, leading to a potential choking situation.

When to give your pet rewards ~ Between meals is the ideal time to offer rewards, not directly before or after a meal. Choose a reward your pet will enjoy. If you are using rewards as a training tool, your reward will not work well after your pet has had a full meal.
