Standard biological filter media with a large area for colonizing bacterial cultures and high efficiency
Substrat can be stacked in one or more layers. It is a highly porous filter material made from crushed glass. The surface structure provides excellent colonization conditions for bacteria important in the purification process. The colonization area is 450 m² per liter.

The main task of biological filter media is to provide the best colonization conditions for bacterial cultures, so that a bacterial lawn develops after a short period. Bacteria feed on dirt particles of all kinds and convert necessary substances for the aquarium.
After the initial cleaning process with mechanical filter media (such as Eheim Mech or Mech Pro), biological filtration is most important. It provides clear, healthy water and stable water values. For this reason, we have invested a lot of research work in developing biological filter media.
Tip:
Do not clean or change all filter media at once (and do not clean too vigorously). Bacterial cultures should not be completely destroyed, otherwise recolonization will be delayed. Filter baskets in external filters and filter units in internal filters like Aquaball and Biopower are ideal for partial cleaning.
