Contains: 6 ml sodium hyaluronate 10 mg/ml
Sodium hyaluronate, the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid (HA), is a non-sulfated glycosaminoglycan (GAG) that is found in many body tissues including connective tissue, skin, and in synovial (joint) fluid in very high concentrations. HA provides viscoelastic properties to joint fluid and acts as a lubricant.
In joint disease, inflammation leads to the accumulation of inflammatory cells and destructive enzymes in the joint fluid that break down HA.
Loss of HA results in decreased joint fluid viscosity and increased inflammatory cell influx, leading to further cartilage damage and worsening joint disease. Sodium hyaluronate supplements help replace HA lost as a result of joint disease, thus restoring joint lubrication, reducing inflammatory infiltration and reducing ongoing damage.
Indications
To help manage non-infectious inflammatory joint diseases in horses that may be associated with early degenerative joint disease in horses.
Dosage and administration
Intravenous Use: Halo Injection contains medium molecular weight sodium hyaluronate with a viscosity suitable for intravenous injection.
Dosage: Adult horse (450 – 500 kg) Administer 4-6 ml Halo injection intravenously.
Repeat weekly for 3-5 injections.
HALO injections are easy to administer and eliminate the usual risks of intra-articular injections which include joint damage, septic arthritis, and Medicines induced joint reaction. The product allows multiple joint Disorders throughout the body to be treated with each intravenous injection.
Due to the highly vascular nature of the equine synovium, it is possible that intravenous injection of synovial cells provides greater exposure to exogenous hyaluronic acid than intra-articular administration.*
