The original Sera Siporax Professional product is suitable for use in freshwater and saltwater aquariums, as well as in ponds. Regardless of the type of filter (internal/external/trickle filter), it maximizes the surface required for biological purification and provides the ideal substrate for the stability of the necessary bacteria for the filter.

Filtration and breakdown processes at the bottom of natural waters are extremely important. Organic waste is processed by microorganisms and is thus available in the natural cycle as nutrients for aquatic plants – pollutants such as ammonium, nitrite, and nitrate are removed. Since little waste is formed per amount of water in nature, the surface at the bottom is sufficient to host a sufficient number of microorganisms.

However, the aquarium accommodates a small biotope in a small space. Therefore, it is essential to maximize the stability area to ensure the complete and safe breakdown of organic material residues.

Sera has implemented this perfectly in the application with the unique high-performance filter medium Sera Siporax.

Unlike other filter rings available in the market, Sera Siporax is made from crushed glass. This unique material is convincing due to its special three-dimensional pore structure. This allows for maximum surface area. At the same time, the fine pores provide ideal stability conditions for bacteria that break down pollutants. Since it is a connected system, the bacteria are permanently washed with water and can thus break down pollutants with the best possible efficiency. Furthermore, the unique pore arrangement allows for self-cleaning of the substrate and thus very long retention periods for the filter.
