Product Details
Hot spots and irritated skin:
Pet owners should pay close attention to environmental, dietary, and situational conditions that irritate your animal's skin such as: allergies, fleas, tick bites, matted/thick/dirty fur, sunburn, wet dogs, or anal gland disease. These conditions can cause your animal to bite, lick, or scratch those areas, which can become painful and dangerous for your pet. Sometimes, biting can be due to boredom. Hot spots and infections can occur quickly after the animal starts itching or biting or licking these affected areas – leading to red, painful, and moist lesions. These lesions are known as hot spots, also known as acute moist dermatitis, and should be treated immediately.
Tips for preventing hot spots:
- Groom your dog regularly and keep the hair short.
- Use flea and tick products recommended by your veterinarian.
- Keep your pet active and lively. Provide good nutrition, plenty of exercise, and playtime to prevent boredom.
- Dry your animal thoroughly after bathing, and care for your animal after swimming in the lake or ocean.
It is important to identify the underlying cause of the problem, so you should consult your veterinarian if hot spots become a persistent issue. Between veterinary visits, the Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Hot Spot & Itch Relief line provides hydrocortisone, a corticosteroid to control itching and inflammation, while lidocaine, a non-prescription analgesic, reduces pain.
