Hot Spots and Irritated Skin:
Pet parents should pay close attention to environmental, dietary, and situational conditions that irritate your animal's skin such as: allergies, fleas, tick bites, matted/tangled/dirty fur, sunburn, wet dogs, or anal gland disease. These conditions can cause your animal to chew, lick, bite, and scratch at those areas - sometimes - to no avail, which can become very painful and dangerous for your animal. Sometimes, chewing can also be a result of boredom. Hot spots and infections can occur very quickly after the pet starts itching, biting, and licking at these affected areas - which will prompt the development of painful, red, and moist lesions. These lesions are called hot spots, also known as acute moist dermatitis, and should be treated immediately.
Tips for Preventing Hot Spots:
- Regularly groom your dog and keep its hair short.
- Use flea and tick products recommended by your veterinarian.
- Keep your animal active and healthy. Provide a good diet, and allocate enough time for exercise and play to prevent boredom.
- Thoroughly dry your animal after bathing, and clean and dry it after swimming in the lake or ocean.
It is important to identify the underlying cause of the problem, so you should consult your veterinarian if hot spots become a persistent issue. Between veterinary visits, the Veterinary Pharmacy's Hot Spot and Itch Treatment line provides hydrocortisone, a corticosteroid to control itching and inflammation while lidocaine, an over-the-counter analgesic, reduces pain.
Description
Formulated with lidocaine and hydrocortisone to reduce itching, redness, and swelling. Enriched with wheat germ oil, (omega-3 and 6 fatty acids) and natural oatmeal to soothe, moisturize, and protect the skin. Allantoin helps speed healing, while lactic acid exfoliates the skin to enhance the penetration of soothing and healing ingredients. Soothes the skin and leaves your animal's coat soft and shiny.
For maximum comfort, use the Clinical Care Shampoo for itch treatment. Use the Clinical Care Spray for itch treatment between baths to relieve symptoms and help speed healing.
Additional Information:
- The balm relieves skin conditions and hot spots. Common causes are immune system weakness, allergies, and insect bites.
- Symptoms of these conditions are itching, swelling, redness, warm/hot to the touch, moist, bloody, and sometimes pus.
- Colloidal oatmeal, aloe vera, and alpha hydroxy acids soothe, moisturize, and protect the skin.
- Rebuilds the epithelial layer of the skin. Itching, redness, and swelling will decrease.
- Prevents the urge to lick, bite, or gnaw at affected areas.
Product Benefits
- Wheat Germ Oil: Extracted from the germ or embryo of the wheat kernel. This natural oil contains essential fats, proteins, and nutrients. Wheat germ is commonly used in cooking, as well as to provide a range of benefits for the skin and hair, as it is easily absorbed by the epithelial layer. Wheat germ oil also contains vitamins A and D - which benefit the skin and remove signs of aging and wrinkles.
- Lactic Acid: An alpha hydroxy acid, gently exfoliates the skin, balances, and moisturizes.
- Colloidal Oatmeal: A gentle natural moisturizer to help treat or prevent dry, itchy, scaly, rough, and minor skin irritations. Moisturizes and soothes the skin while reducing itching and flaking.
- Paraben-Free: Parabens have been found to mimic estrogen in the body - and when levels are disrupted, a link has been developed with breast cancer and reproductive issues. All our formulations are paraben-free, to promote the safety, well-being, and health of your animal.
- pH Balanced: Sensitive pet skin requires pH-balanced treatment. Human shampoos are designed at a lower pH (more acidic) - and should not be used on your animal.
- Soap-Free: Only the finest natural cleansers have been used in our formulations. They contain no harsh soaps or harmful detergents.
- Safe for Use with Topical Treatments: Will not remove topical flea and tick treatments.
- Bilingual and Spanish Packaging
