Benefits

Oral and dental health for pets is very important. They are unable to tell us when they are in pain, so regularly checking their gums and teeth is important. Chewing Zeal® treats will help remove plaque and tartar. It is also good to regularly brush your pet's teeth!

Treats for use in training sessions: Treats are a useful tool in the training process as they help keep your pet focused on you and the learning process, regardless of their age. For training purposes, treats should be small and easy to swallow, requiring little chewing so you can reward behaviors quickly and frequently. Ideal training treats are relatively soft and pea-sized. Pets are not overly concerned with the size of the treat, but the quantity is what impresses them. Larger treats are more suitable for rewarding good behavior, like large pieces, where your pet has to stop, chew, and take time to consume them.

How to use dog treats more effectively: The most effective way to use treats is to reinforce a calm and obedient state. Never use treats to reward an excited or overstimulated mental state. Always let your pet sniff the treat first, but hold it away from them and wait. Remember that pets, especially dogs, can smell from over 5 meters away, so you don't need to place the treat under their nose. Once they get the Scent, dogs may initially jump, and even jump on you. If this happens, indicate your disapproval through your behavior and body language, your patience as an owner will pay off in a well-mannered pet. They will realize that a calm and cool demeanor yields results, as they sit and wait while looking at you with quiet anticipation. In the moment of calm, offer them the treat. Do not use treats to reinforce an overly excited pet, but to enforce the calm and obedient state.

What type of treats are suitable for your dog's or cat's breed, size, and age?
We recommend that your pet consumes treats under supervision, especially when trying a new treat. Many dogs tend to consume treats quickly without even chewing them, so monitor all sizes and ages to ensure they can handle them without choking incidents. Cats generally tend to chew the treat without trying to consume it in seconds. Small dogs may find shank bones, etc., a bit large, and large dogs may try to swallow medium-sized harder treats without chewing, while older pets with dental Disorders will need softer chews, so it is about assessing your pet's size and eating behaviors.

Feeding Guidelines

Do not overindulge in treats ~ Although it may be tempting when your pet begs for more, do not be too generous and keep treats under control. Treats are meant to be a supplement to your pet's diet. As with us, excessive treats can lead to weight gain, and they may disrupt the balance of your pet's diet, which should be complete and balanced to maintain their health. Ideally, treats given daily should not exceed 10% of your pet's daily caloric needs, so reduce regular meal portions to avoid weight gain, considering what has been consumed in treats during training sessions in the day. This also applies to treats given as general rewards for good behavior. If you do not, your pet will slowly gain weight, and the extra kilograms beyond the ideal will be detrimental to your pet's health.

Information about treats ~ We always recommend that your pet consumes treats under supervision, especially when trying a new treat. Some dogs (and this is uncommon for cats) are overly enthusiastic when it comes to tasty morsels and may not chew properly, which could lead to a potential choking situation.

When to offer treats to your pet ~ Between meals is the ideal time to offer treats, not directly before or after a meal. Choose a treat that will delight your pet. If you are using treats as a training tool, your treat will not work as effectively after your pet has had a full meal.
