Absorption begins with the loss of tensile strength followed by mass loss. Approximately 80% of the original tensile strength is retained after two weeks, with significant loss by the fourth week, and absorption is nearly complete between 75 and 90 days. This profile supports wound healing while minimizing the presence of long-term foreign material.
