The Exo Terra Reptile UVB 100, 13W has a medium to high UV output, similar to that found in shaded environments such as rainforests and other tropical locations. Reptiles living in these habitats receive less UV radiation due to numerous climatic conditions (rather high humidity, changes in weather, etc.) that prevent direct sunlight from reaching them or their basking sites.
The advantage of the Exo Terra Repti Glo Compact Fluorescent Bulb is its size and the fact that it is self-ballasted. Regular screw installation is sufficient to operate these lights. The bulb's spiral shape allows for vertical or horizontal installation without compromising performance.
It is recommended to combine a high UV output (Repti Glo 5.0 and 10.0) with a very high visible light output (Repti Glo 2.0) for best results. Fluorescent lamps do not provide enough heat. In addition, a separate heat source is required (eg: incandescent solar lamp).
